For the fourth year, M3 Accounting + Analytics has provided sponsorship funds to award two winners of the Best Graduate Student Paper Awards at the International Association of Hospitality Financial Management Education’s symposium, now in its 33rd year.
Scott Watson, executive vice president of sales and marketing for M3, presented the awards in November at New York University in New York City, along with Dean Pat Moreo of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee College of Hospitality and Tourism Leadership and Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu, director of the M3 Center for Hospitality Technology and Innovation at USF.
This year’s honorees included Yuan Li and Dr. Manisha Singal of Virginia Tech, who studied and reported on the effect of CEO characteristics on firm performance in the hospitality industry; and Dr. Tarik Dogru of Boston University and Dr. Ercan Sirakaya-Turk of the University of South Carolina, who wrote on investment and firm value and posed the question, “Is there an optimal investment level in hotel firms?” Both articles are published in the Journal of Hospitality Management and abstracts of each can be reviewed at http://ahfme.org/Research_Symposium.html.
Leaders from the hospitality education community attended the one-day symposium from across the country and heard a variety of presentations on the state of the industry as it relates to hotel investment and financial performance. The iAHFME organization’s mission is to support higher education in hospitality finance and development of educators in this specialty.
“We find great value in being a part of this organization, because these are the people who are making a difference in our hospitality schools and bringing critical thinking skills to the next generation of hoteliers,” Scott Watson said of M3’s involvement. “With the annual research paper awards and our continued integration of M3 University into classrooms across the country, M3 is working to ensure that new graduates can hit the ground running and offer immediate value to an employer when beginning their hotel careers.”
The M3 University program, administered by the M3 Center at the USF Sarasota-Manatee’s College of Hospitality and Technology Leadership, has provided complimentary access to M3 software and a curriculum for AccKnowledge® and M3’s business intelligence and analytics tool, M3 Link® to universities across North America. Since launching over four years ago, the program has been incorporated into over 30 hospitality schools across North America, including the University of Florida, Michigan State University and Auburn University.
